Shopping

All the island's main shops are in Castlebay. On the main street which runs up from the pier to Castlebay Square, you'll find a post office and a bank (RBS) with a cash machine. At 'The Butchers' shop you can buy groceries, petrol and the daily papers (if the plane has landed).

In the square is a general store known as the 'Top Shop' and you might look into the Community Shop if you need to buy spare clothing while you're here.

The Co-op supermarket (at the western end of Castlebay) is where locals do the weekly shop, and it's also open later than the shops in the centre of Castlebay.

Islanders are used to paying a bit over the odds for most things, so if you're planning a long stay with a big family, you may want to stock up the car with groceries before you get on the ferry at Oban.

The Cottage has a plentiful supply of logs, in case the nights get cold (and central heating too). We also supply all towels and linen.
